Orthopaedic Surgery and Department of Surgery
Division of Public Health Sciences
The primary aim of Dr. Yanik’s research is to identify opportunities for prevention of musculoskeletal disease using advanced epidemiologic methods. Her current research focuses on two main lines of investigation: 1) understanding factors that influence risk of glenohumeral osteoarthritis, including the contributions of genetics and occupational exposures, and 2) investigating the relationship of sleep and circadian rhythm disruption with osteoarthritis risk. Big data approaches are used to facilitate these investigations leveraging large databases and linked datasets to advance the understanding of the development and progression of musculoskeletal diseases. Dr. Yanik also collaborates broadly across the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery to support clinical research efforts by providing expertise on study design, measurement, and statistical analyses. She holds a secondary appointment in the Division of Public Health Sciences in the Department of Surgery.
