Washington University’s Department of Orthopaedic Surgery currently ranks first in the United States for National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding for orthopedic clinical science research.
WashU Orthopedics received over $8.3 million from the NIH in 2020, according to the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research (BRIMR).
In addition, three WashU Orthopedics research faculty rank in the top 20 of NIH-funded principal investigators for orthopaedic research:
#3 – Matt Silva, PhD – $2.15 million
#13 – Jie Shen, PhD – $1.3 million
#14 – Farsh Guilak, PhD – $1.3 million
